Placeloader – private location history
Placeloader records when you arrive at and leave the places you save, and shows on a daily timeline where your time went. The history sits in an encrypted database on your phone; the app needs no account and shows no ads.

The ring loads
You save places such as home or work. When you arrive, the phone detects it through a geofence, and the ring counts the time for that place.

A whole day, as a route
Home, work, café, work, gym, home: the route map is part of the day view, next to the ring and the 24-hour strip. The untracked leg stays pale.

The day view in the app
This is the day in Placeloader itself: a screenshot of the app, with the ring, the time tracked that day and the time per place.
What it does
- Automatic visits
- Save places such as home, work or the gym. With background location access, the app detects arrivals and departures through geofences.
- Day view
- A ring of time per place, a 24-hour strip and a route map.
- A timeline with gaps
- Visits, the legs between places and untracked time in one list. Gaps stay visible, so it is clear what was recorded and what was not.
- History and trends
- Search past days, a week view, trends by week, month and year, plus streaks and milestones.
- Notes and corrections
- Day notes and tags; reassign, retime or delete a visit.
- Widget
- A home-screen widget shows the day’s ring and the current place.
- Privacy in your hands
- Pause tracking at any time, keep raw location data for 30 days up to one year, export as JSON and delete locally. A dashboard shows what is stored on the phone, what leaves it and how much battery tracking uses.
- Optional services
- Place suggestions from Google Places and routes snapped to streets run only if you switch them on.
What it deliberately doesn’t do
- Needs no account
- Shows no ads
How it’s built
Kotlin, Jetpack Compose and an encrypted Room database (SQLCipher). Plus Hilt and WorkManager, Android geofencing with a foreground service for location capture, the Google Maps SDK for maps and Jetpack Glance for the widget. Tested with JUnit 5 and Robolectric.
Operated and sold by Axenta GmbH.
